A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
|
This cover was originally completed for an illustration assignment in college. Recently, though, I took another stab at the digital aspects of the design, and found myself much more satisfied with the subtler color scheme and border. The painting depicts the play's four starring lovers, asleep under the influence of Puck's magic, who looms silhouetted in the background. The digital design elements are inspired by Athenian vase painting, a nod to the the play's setting, and feature pansies and donkey heads.
“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows, Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows, Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine, With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine.” The cover illustration was completed in acrylics on an 8"x10" wood panel. The cover was arranged digitally in Adobe Illustrator, featuring the font Zabatana Poster by DeFharo. |
