Folksongs & Ballads by Tia Blake
|
Tia Blake's 1972 album Folksongs and Ballads was the soundtrack to my college experience and heavily influenced my current love of folk music in general. It's a collection of American, Irish, and English folksongs which the artist's haunting, melodic voice suit perfectly. I decided to depict a scene from the final song, "Polly Vaughn," on the cover, since it features such striking imagery in its story.
"He looked on the lake A swan glided by The sun slowly sank In the grey of the sky She'd her apron Wrapped about her And he took her for a swan And it so, and alas It was she, Polly Vaughn" The illustration for this cover was completed in acrylics on a 12"x12" wood panel. It was arranged digitally in Adobe Illustrator using fonts Hoefler Text and Il Shake Fest by The Illinois Shakespeare Festival. |
